What’s wrong with this 1949 Gottlieb Sharpshooter Pinball Machine?

What a minute – no way is that artwork from the master Roy Parker!

I saw this listing online for a vintage pinball machine, a 1949 Gottlieb “Sharpshooter” and something was way off about the backglass.

The women depicted, especially the girl on the bottom right look way too simple, modern and generic. The woman in the white blouse looks like some kind of Windows 95 clipart. And where are all of the details Roy Parker always included?

The original backglass for a 1949 Gottlieb Sharpshooter Pinball Machine – artwork by Roy Parker.

Sure enough, I found the original online. Look how much more detail and storytelling you get with the original backglass. You have the carny operator in the lower right with his stuffed animal prizes and then you have Annie Oakley firing away from the hip with a pistol while the show off Buffalo Bill Cody cowboy with his fancy leather gloves fires his rifle over his shoulder – a real sharpshooter!
