Looking for a cheap yet capable streaming device that I can use with Tailscale and Jellyfin for remote family members, I found this new $29 streamer from Walmart.
Amazingly I ordered two of these online in the morning at it arrive at my door around 4:00, and I live 20 minutes from the nearest Walmart.
The newest version of the “onn” Google TV streaming device does 4K UHD, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. And more importantly Tailscale and Jellyfin apps are available via the Google Play store.

Two other apps can be installed to totally customize the device. Button Mapper allows you to remap the buttons on the remote. For example changing the “FREE TV” button to a Jellyfin launcher.
Projectivy Launcher is a customizable launcher for Android TV that transforms your home screen into a sleek, ad-free, and personalized entertainment hub. You can set it up to create a stripped down interface that launches instead of the ad heavy Google TV home page.
Customized Buttons on the Remote
The STAR BUTTON on the top right of the remote is customizable right out of the box. I set mine to launch Projectivy Launcher.
I also set up Projectivity Launcher to start on boot up so if you hit the HOME BUTTON it will also start up Projectivity Launcher.
I mapped the FREE TV BUTTON to launch Jellyfin.
Notes
At the top right you’ll see three icons.
- Key – means the VPN (Tailscale) is connect
- V shaped icon – this is the Wifi connection
- Gear – settings
