About the photograph: After a long, long, cold and snowy winter here in the Upper Valley region, the first signs of spring were a welcomed site. At one point I wasn’t sure if the snow piles would melt in time to see the daffodils but fortunately it did.
From the start I envisioned this image as a black and white. Despite the beautiful red rust on the foreground shovel, I didn’t want that to distract from the daffodils which I saw as nearly pure white and delicate against a dark, rough, metal and wood background. This image was shot in my studio with a studio light and soft box to mimic window light.
