New arrivals to the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont might think there is nothing to see but trees, mountains, ponds, lakes, and of course the mighty Connecticut River.

But this region has a lot of interesting man-made features also including historic churches, college campuses, covered bridges, electric dams, railroad bridges, tourist trains, old woolen mills and even a former shaker village.

So pack a cooler, grab a map, and head out onto some of the back roads of the Upper Valley with no goals other than drinking in the beauty and discovering everything this region has to offer from swimming holes to hikes to the beautiful scenery.
