Prints On Wood

Wood prints, that is images printed on actual wood, can create a unique form of artwork for your home although some images look better than others when printed on wood.

Compared to paper substrate, wood has a few unique features.  First it is stiff of course.  It stands on it’s own. You could even lean a large wood print against a wall.  It also doesn’t require any kind of framing.

Another unique feature to consider is it’s off white base and the grain.  Being a natural product each wood print is special because each piece of wood has its own unique grain that does show through the print. It is subtle because birch is used but the slight grain will show upon close inspection letting you know that the piece is created by printing on a wood surface.

Since the base is wood colored rather than bright white like with paper, the result is a overall dulling of the highlights.  Wood prints have less contrast than regular paper, metal or acrylic prints.  This gives the resulting print an instant “vintage” look that enhances certain types of images.

If you want saturated colors and bright, contrast prints, then wood isn’t the right choice.  But if you want toned down, casual and vintage type images say for a photo of an old barn, then wood prints might be the way to go.

Any of the prints in the Edward M. Fielding portfolio can be purchase on wood as well as paper, metal, canvas and acrylic.  https://edward-fielding.pixels.com/
