Loved all over the world Anne of Green Gables, the 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery or L. M. Montgomery, has been drawing tourists to the East coast island of Prince Edward Island in Canada for decades and remains one of PEI’s best marketing themes.

Prince Edward Island is a beautiful place to visit with it’s rolling fields of potato farms, red sand stone cliffs, beautiful harbors full of fishing boats and mussel farms, the romantic lighthouses that dot the scenery and of course the beaches warmed by the gulf stream.

The Lighthouse map issued by the Prince Edward Island Lighthouse Society has 63 lighthouses listed in total making it the highest concentration of lighthouses in any province or state in North America! 21 are already decommissioned, 13 are listed as private and only 3 not accessible by car. 9 are opened to the public.

Lobster, oysters, mussels and fresh fish are just some of the food delights that await you on Prince Edward Island and of course, french fries are never far away on this potato producing island.
