Photographs from the American Deserts

Edward M. Fielding is a fine art photographer based in New Hampshire but he travels the country looking for interesting and compelling subjects. Prints from his portfolio are available for purchase at:  https://edward-fielding.pixels.com/

Recently I’ve been traveling through Arizona searching for images from Sedona to Tuscon.  I’ve been to aircraft bone yards to old mining town ghost towns.

One thing that always catches my eye in the American Southwest are old abandoned things like houses, building, cars and even airplanes.  Discarded technology, things that once sheltered or transported humans and now are no longer needed.

In the dry desert air, metal and wood rots slowly but the sun does a number on paint and anything rubber.  Tires melt, paint fades and cracks to a wonderful patina.  Rodents and rattlesnakes move in.  Decay takes its toil.  Rust and rot occurs.

Objects become time capsules.  A look back in time.  Like a photograph, time stops and freezes these objects in the past.
