Movie Night – 13 Assassins (2010)

13 Assassins (2010) is a gripping samurai epic by Takashi Miike set in the fading days of Japan’s Edo period. It follows thirteen warriors on a desperate mission to stop a sadistic lord from ascending to power and plunging the country into chaos. Building tension through moral conflict and meticulous planning, the film culminates in an intense, extended battle that has been widely praised for its choreography and impact, making it a must-watch for fans of period action dramas.

I just watched 13 Assassins (2010) on my big screen TV – what a great samurai movie! If you like medieval political theater and brutal violence like The Game of Thrones, sword fighting and sadistic villains getting their just deserts in the hands of the justice-seeking underdogs, then this is a movie for you.

Take Shogun, Seven Samurai or The Magnificient Seven and mix in a dash of Hanzo the Razor (twisted Japanese sex) and you have this intense epic set in the days of the waning samurai.

This Blu-Ray edition even includes the movie “Blade of the Immortal” based on the popular Maga series.
