Mid-Coast Maine | Five Islands Lobster Co.

We decided to take an early evening drive from Phippsburg, Maine to Georgetown the check out the Five Islands Lobster Co.

What a view! We live on Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park for seven years, and have visited almost every corner of this vast state and I swear this is one of the most scenic spots in the state.

From the close-knitted jumble of houses and cottages on the hills surrounding the harbor to the busy working harbor and rugged islands within the harbor. The view can not be beaten!

Beautiful spot for lobster and seafood.

Five Islands Lobster Co. is perched on an active fishing wharf, on the edge of Sheepscot Bay, surrounded by some of the coldest and deepest waters on the Maine Coast.

How was the food?

We opted for the fried whole belly clams and fried scallops as the lobster prices have been crazy lately. In the “post-Covid” summer season, some places have raised the cost of a lobster roll to $34!

I thought the fried seafood was expensive – $26 for a portion of fried clams and fries. Not even something on the side like corn on the cob or coleslaw. The clam bellies were not very full and overall both of our meals could have used more draining of the fry oil as they were greasy. I don’t care how busy they are, at these prices they could at least drail the oil. My wife’s scallops were good but the fries at the bottom were full of oil. Overall I have to give it an “average” rating for a Maine fried seafood spot although we did not try the steamed clams or lobster.

We’ll give them another try, perhaps during a less crazy summer because you just have to see the view from their picnic tables.
