I was a senior in high school in a small rural town with not much to do except go to the movies, a 30-minute drive away. In February that year I was sitting in the theater watching the struggle between conservatives trying to control society and the kids who just wanted to listen to music and dance.
Living through the Ronald Reagan years this movie rung true as it does today with another conservative administration trying to impose themselves on everyone.
I’ve have even seen a local high school theater group production of the musical which was a lot of fun.

The 2011 Remake of Footloose
Does one need to remake a classic? Not really but the oldie but goodie from 1984 was remade in 2011.
Footloose is a 2011 American musical drama film co-written and directed by Craig Brewer. It is a remake of the 1984 film of the same name, and stars Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Andie MacDowell, and Dennis Quaid. The film follows a young man who moves from Boston to a small Southern town and protests the town’s ban against dancing.

The 2011 version of Footloose is essentially the same movie as the original, but with actual underlying themes. It uses 90% of the same scenes and dialogue as the original, but is a superior movie. Little things throughout the film remind you of the original, like the tractor and the solo dance scene. There are songs from the original as well, but they are done differently and kind of tossed off to the side. The filmmakers wanted to make this a modern version of the film so there is hip hop, rock and country all rolled into this film. Footloose (2011) vs. Footloose (1984) – Spectrum Culture
