Fixing a leaky outside faucet

Above: House photography by Edward M. Fielding

We’ve been in a drought situation here in New Hampshire for the past year and water usage is restricted in our community. We’ve been careful to only flush the toilet when needed and can’t wash our cars. Our neighbors have been waiting to get their house painted once the power washing ban is over.

One thing I have to fix is the leaky 20-year-old outside wall faucet. This type of faucet with an anti-siphon valve can leak in two areas – from the faucet or the siphon and you can purchase repair kits for either.

Prier 630-8500 Wall Hydrant Complete Service Kit

This kit has everything you need to fix both parts of an old leaky faucet. Even if you only need part of this kit now, it’s cheaper to buy this complete service kit for leaky outside faucets now than the individual kits.
