Trail squeezed between surf and cliffs at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

The trails at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve a 2,000 acre coastal state park located in the community of La Jolla, in San Diego, California, off North Torrey Pines Road – within the San Diego city limits remains one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast. The trails range from clifftop seal watching platforms to surf side stretches along the beach during low tide.

Beach Trail. A 3/4-mile trail that is a rustic footpath through the Upper Reserve and descends roughly 300 feet to the beach. Final access to beach via stairs as shown in the above photograph by Edward Fielding.

Iceland’s dramatic volcano and glacial carved landscape provide a variety of mostly tree-less hikes to waterfalls and geological wonders. Hike Along an Ancient Polynesian Trade Route

The road was originally built by native Hawaiians under the reign of King Pi’ilani, but was revitalized in the 1800s by prisoners, inspiring the moniker “the road that sin built“. The Highway was once an essential part of life for the people of Maui. This area was also used as a target range by the US Navy. Stay on the path as unexploded shells might still be found in the fields of volcanic rubble.

Hike to Meet the Angels – Zion National Park

One of the most popular and finest hiking trails in the USA. Angels Landing Trail, known previously as the Temple of Aeolus, is a 1,488-foot tall rock formation in Zion National Park in southwestern Utah in the United States. A trail cut into solid rock in 1926 leads to the top of Angels Landing and provides views of Zion Canyon. Get there early if you want to beat the crowds and the last section is not for the faint of heart.

Hike on Mars – Haleakala National Park, Maui, Hawaii

We actually experienced snow in Hawaii on top of Haleakala. A remote path of crushed lava leads along the unearthly side of an extinct volcano into the mist. Leading lines of a path on top of Maui Hawaii’s Sliding Sands trail above 10,000 feet on the crater walls of Haleakala.

Hike at the Top of the World – Alpine Lake Trail, Beartooth Highway, Montana/Wyoming

Lots of great hikes along the dramatic Beartooth Highway. The Beartooth Lakes Trail meanders near lake shores and through rounded boulders strewn across grassy meadows.

The Beartooth Highway is an All-American Road on a section of U.S. Route 212 in Montana and Wyoming between Red Lodge and the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park, passing over the Beartooth Pass in Wyoming at 10,947 feet above sea level.

Hike Among the Hoodoo Trails, Bryce Canyon, National Park, Utah

Rather easy but dramatic hiking among these rock formations. Bryce Canyon National Park, a sprawling reserve in southern Utah, is known for crimson-colored hoodoos, which are spire-shaped rock formations. The park’s main road leads past the expansive Bryce Amphitheater, a hoodoo-filled depression lying below the Rim Trail hiking path. It has overlooks at Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Prime viewing times are around sunup and sundown.

The craggy, cliff-hugging trails between the fishing villages of Cinque Terra in Italy provide breathtaking views of the villages below clinging to the rocky crevices. The trails take hikers through vineyards above the trains that tunnel through the cliffs and the rooftops of the townhouses and narrow car-free streets below.

Helicopters Below The Trail – Waihee Ridge Trail Maui, Hawaii

Another great hiking trail in Maui, Hawaii. Along this ridge trail, one looks down into the lush valley where tourist helicopters can be seen flying – BELOW! Watch out for the slippery mud.

The trail begins at an elevation of 1,000 feet before heading upward through classic Maui vegetation for views of the Waihe’e Gorge and Makamakaole Gulch.
