Farmhouse style is all the rage!

Put up your feet, cosy not cluttered, old and worn but not precious.  Modern farmhouse is an inviting mix of casual and eclectic.  After years of Danish modern, sleak, new, modern and down right cold, Modern Farmhouse stytle is a decor trend that rejects the mass merchandise of Ikea.

Time to away the dorm furniture and embrace the past, just a bit,  Bring in some warmth.  Some feeling of family.  Handed down heirlooms.  Real wood and metal with the patina of age and workmanship.

Think barns.  Think harvest.  Thing back to the land.  Think industrial or everyday useful objects.  Think the old tractor that lasted for generations because the “throwaway society” and plastic everything just didn’t fit with a generation that lived through the depression.

Time to embrace tradition and surround yourself with things that make you feel good.  Things you can touch and feel the texture.  Things with a purpose not just pre-packaged decorations put on a boat from China.

Comfort is king with with salvaged materials like reclaimed wood. Antiques are right fine as long as they can be sat on and used.

At the same time less is more.  In country style, there tends to be an over abundance of accessories.  With modern farmhouse the clutter is kept to a minimum.  A single strong piece of wall art can replace a zillion kitchy doo dads.

The colors are warm or cool neutrals (cream, beige, silver sage and gray.  Organic materials like wood and sisal connect the interior to the outside.  Perhaps stop at the mounted moose head but add elements like wooden floors and salvaged materials.
