For non-Icelanders browsing through a local Icelandic grocery store, some of the food options might seem a bit strange.

It makes sense that this remote country, located near the arctic circle, surrounded by water, would include a lot of fish in their diet.

In Iceland supermarkets you’ll see fish, fish and more fish.  All kinds of frozen fish and even dried fish.  There is even a tasty “Viking” dried fish snack.  Mmmmm, mmmm salty good!

The Icelandic “hardfiskur” or dried fish has been very popular with Icelanders throughout the centuries. Providing Icelanders with a healthy snack that’s full of protein and nutrients.

Bitafiskur or traditional Icelandic Snacks from dried fish is skinless, boneless and full of protein.  82% protein in fact and rich in healthy Omega-3.  Low fat, high protein, what’s not to love?
