Can I use a Blink Mini security camera outside?

Can I use a Blink Mini security camera outside? Yes, with caution. Just be aware that you will most likely be violating its one-year warranty. Why would you want to try this? Because even though the Blink line of security cameras are some of the most affordable security cameras on the market, the Blink Mini is a real bargin.

At $35, the little Blink Mini security camera is the least expensive security camera in the Blink lineup. Unlike the $100 black weatherproof outdoor cameras, the Blink Mini is white and is powered via a USB cord rather than batteries like the Blink Outdoor cameras. The Blink Mini also does not include a temperature sensor.

The Blink Mini is not meant for outdoors. The Blink Mini has an operating temperature range of 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C). The Blink Mini is not waterproof and any exposure to moisture and/or temperatures outside the operating range will void our one-year limited warranty.

Despite the cautions, I successfully installed a Blink Mini in a sheltered spot outside my house and it seems to have handled subfreezing temperatures fine. As long as you have an outside GFI-protected outlet and a sheltered spot, there is no reason you can’t try to use your inexpensive Blink Mini outside.

A spot in the breezeway, safe from the elements.
This USB port allows the protective door to close more than the wall wart that came with the Blink Mini.
The cover mostly closes – again this outlet is undercover. Slim USB charger ports allow one to close the door better than the larger cube-like USB ports.

If you don’t have a sheltered spot, you can make one by using a housing such as this Outdoor NEMA Economy Box.
