Breaking the law, breaking the law – Minors illegally playing pinball in South Carolina

It is unlawful for a minor under the age of eighteen to play a pinball machine.

SECTION 63-19-2430. Playing pinball machines.

If you are under 18 find yourself in South Caroline and walk up to a The Addams Family pinball machine, drop in a few quarters and pull back the plunger for a fun game of amusement – you are technically breaking the law.

Section 63-19-2430 of South Carolina’s law states that minors playing pinball is unlawful. Fortunately for minor pinball fans in South Carolina the law is nullified, meaning it is still on the books but not enforced. No cop will arrest you and not judge will hear a case involving minors playing pinball.

Also on the books, dancing at a club must halt at midnight on Saturday night and you can’t buy silverware on Sundays. Challenging someone to a duel is also against the law.

And men, you can go to jail for seducing a woman while promising marriage.

Section 58-17-160: You can’t remove a railroad from a town with more than 500 people.

Good news for youngsters playing pinball!

“Not only would they not get convicted,” said Solicitor Richardson, “if a police officer were to charge somebody with playing pinball at the age of 16, but we would also dismiss it or never go forward with anything like that.”

Because that would be silly.
