Aladdin

We all know the story to a certain extent.  A poor street rat named Aladdin comes across an oil lamp with magic qualities.

When the tarnished metal of the lamp is rubbed it summons a magic genie that can grant wishes.

The story has inspired everything from Disney’s animated movie “Aladdin” and its follow up musical as well as TV sitcoms like “I dream of Jeanie” and even the plot line of the video game Sonic and the Secret Rings.  There was even an animated version with Mr. Magoo back in 1959 called 101 Arabian Nights Starring Mr. Magoo.

The original story is one of the best known folk tales included in “The Book of One Thousand and One Nights or The Arabian Nights, although it wasn’t part of the original Arabic text.  It was added later in the 18th century by a Frenchman named Antoine Galland who attributes the tale to Syrian storyteller Youhenna Diab.

My version of Aladdin features my ever willing model “Tiki” the wonder dog, my West Highlands White Terrier who loves to model in between naps and squirrel hunts.
