After the last couple of security patches, my Plex Media Server lost it’s connection with remote users. Plex gave me the RED ! on remote access instead of the GREEN check mark.
It was weird. I had one user who uses a Windows Laptop have no problem. Another user able to connect via their Android phone but not the TV.
I went through the check list of steps. Checking my port forwarding on my router. Making sure Plex was pointed to the right files on my NAS. Checking my firewall settings.
Nothing seemed to work until I found this solution. Basically deleting the certificate in the cache folder and rebooting Plex to force it to give me a new certificate.
The Advanced Reset Workaround
- Change Network Settings in Plex:
- Go to your Plex Web App, then click Settings ➔ Network.
- Click Show Advanced at the top right of the settings window.
- Look for Strict TLS configuration and check the box (this tells Plex to switch to ECDSA certificates on renewal).
- Click Save Changes.
- Completely Shut Down Plex:
- Make sure the Plex Media Server process is entirely closed and not just running in the background. [1]
- Clear the Cache Again:
- Go back into your Plex data directory
.../Plex Media Server/Cache/. - If
cert-v2.p12orcertificate.p12is not there, check to see if you have any lingering files namedcertificate.p12.oldor.crtfiles and delete them entirely.
- Go back into your Plex data directory
- Restart the Server:
- Launch Plex Media Server again.
- Give it 2 to 3 minutes, then refresh your browser and head to Settings ➔ Remote Access to check if the connection turns green.
This worked for me!
