It is an English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese film High and Low, itself based on Ed McBain’s 1959 novel King’s Ransom. The story revolves around a high-level music executive in a formerly high-flying record company who is trying to raise cash to buy back a controlling share of the company when his godson is kidnapped.
