A TRIPTYCH is a set of three associated artistic, literary, or musical works intended to be appreciated together.

I created this triptych from three separate photographs of a vintage typewriter. The result of hanging these three images side by side on a wall is stunning especially with three large canvas prints.  Although three framed and matted pieces would also look rather cool.

I also offer other fine art photographs featuring this fine old machine that I own – a classic vintage Woodstock metal antique typewriter, like this poster made from fragments of the typewriter – https://edward-fielding.pixels.com/featured/1-vintage-typewriter-edward-fielding.html

A typewriter is a mechanical or electro mechanical device with keys that, when pressed, cause characters to be printed on a medium, usually paper. Typically one character is printed for keypress, and the machine prints the characters by making ink impressions of type elements similar to the sorts used in movable type letterpress printing.

After their invention in the 1860s, typewriters quickly became indispensable tools for practically all writing other than personal correspondence. They were widely used by professional writers, in offices, and for business correspondence in private homes. By the end of the 1980s, word processors and personal computers had largely displaced typewriters in most of these uses.

The above “low key” photograph creates a sense of drama by taking an already dark object, the black painted vintage typewriter, and puts it in a dark room with lighting that highlights the sliver keys and white accents.

Low-key photography is a genre of photography consisting in shooting dark-colored scenes, and emphasizing natural or artificial light only on specific areas in the frame. This photographic style is usually used to create a mysterious atmosphere that only suggests various shapes, often graphic, letting the viewer experience the photograph through subjective interpretation.

Life begins with coffee

Coffee starts the day

One of my last thoughts of the day is thinking about how good that first cup of coffee is going to taste in the morning.

The Healthful Benefits of Coffee Consumption

It seems like most of the more recent health studies have indicated a healthy connection with coffee in moderation.  The caffeine helps  jump start the heart and the anti-oxidants flood the body to get rid of toxins.

The newest studies have shown connections between coffee and brain health.

Drinking three cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of dementia, scientists claim.

Moderate caffeine consumption is known to prevent the formation of toxic clumps in the brain linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

But a new report shows long-term intake helps to fill the body with powerful antioxidants that boost cognitive function.

It could also prevent Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders, an analysis funded by six of Europe’s biggest coffee companies found.

Coffee Overdose

Of course one needs to be careful with too much caffeine.  Caffeine overdoses can be fatal and kids should not be exposed to high levels of caffeine.

A great little coffee machine

In our household we found a great little coffee machine that makes lattes.  After seeing my brothers fancy Nespresso machine and witnessing how many little pods it went through, we searched for a machine that would make lattes but not be so wasteful or expensive.

We found it with the Mr. Coffee BVMC-EL1 Cafe Latte machine.

The Mr. Coffee Café Latte makes delicious lattes in one simple touch and provides a quick, easy and affordable solution for latte lovers. The automated process will brew coffee or espresso while heating and frothing milk to create a delicious latte.

What’s nice about this coffee maker is that you simply load up the carafe with milk and the top with espresso and water. The machine does all of the brewing, heating and frothing. We end up drinking more milk and less sugar because the resulting concoction is so rich and foamy, you don’t really need to add any sweetner. I usually use Almond milk in mine.

It uses regular paper filters so there are no special “pods” to buy. Not excessive material waste. The grounds and paper filter go right into the compost bin so there is no plastic going to the landfill.

Using a Fog Machine to create atmospheric effects

After cleaning out the garage recently I came across a fog machine that I had stored way back among the Halloween party decorations.

I haven’t used it in year and also tossed it in the tag sale pile but then it hit me, why not use it in my photography studio for some atmospheric, book cover images?

So I’ve been experimenting recently. The smoke machine or fog machine I have uses “fog juice” and a heating element to create a smoky fog that lifts into the air. Unlike dry ice which creates vapor that drops to the ground.

This fog machine is good for a small production or party use. Here are some of the answers to questions I had before I bought the machine. Hope this will help you:
1. The size of the machine is 8.5″ x 6″ x 6″
2. There is a bottle in the back where you pour the fog juice in
3. On the right side, there is a slot, so you can see the level of the liquid
4. On the left side, on top is the plug in for the remote control; below that is the fuse; and on the bottom is the power cable.
5. The power cable is 6′ long
6. The remote control has a 10′ long cable. On the remote control, there is a light on top with an on/off switch on the bottom.
7. According to the specs, the container in the fog machine can hold 1 pint of juice.
8. To create fog, fill the tank with juice, plug in the machine, in about 4 minutes the light on the remote control will light up, signaling the machine is hot enough to use. Press and hold the spring loaded on/off switch will release fog from the nozzle.
9. When the juice is heated up, you can release 40 seconds of fog before it need to reheat the element again, which takes about 3 minutes.
10. I have filled half the tank with juice, it lasted me for a good hour of use.

Get the best fog juice for your machine.  Some fog juice is designed to dissipate quickly to fill a stage area with clouds so lights and lasers can be seen better.  Other formula’s of fog juice are designed to say on the ground for spooky graveyard like effects.  These effects are typically better with more expensive fog machines that include a chilling element (ice bin) to create cold air to keep the fog low on the ground.

Keep in mind that when photographing fog or smoke say from a extinguished candle, incense burner or even cigar smoke or vapor from an e-cigarette, the lighting makes a big difference.

Flash strobes will freeze the smoke or fog while a long exposure will even it out.The following images were created with smoke from a incense and studio strobe lights.

bicycle, often called a bike or cycle, is a human-powered, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. A bicycle rider is called a cyclist, or bicyclist.

Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century in Europe and as of 2003, more than 1 billion have been produced worldwide, twice as many as the number of automobiles that have been produced. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions. They also provide a popular form of recreation, and have been adapted for use as children’s toys, general fitness, military and police applications, courier services, and bicycle racing.

The basic shape and configuration of a typical upright, or safety bicycle, has changed little since the first chain-driven model was developed around 1885. But many details have been improved, especially since the advent of modern materials and computer-aided design. These have allowed for a proliferation of specialized designs for many types of cycling.

Pinball Machine Artwork

Recently sold pinball machine artwork by Edward M. Fielding

Edward Fielding sold a 30.00″ x 30.00″ print of Pinball Machine Watercolor to a buyer from New Albany, OH.

http://fineartamerica.com/saleannouncement.html?id=bb0602fc614688cbcfce956e14e41732

This pinball machine watercolor featuring a close up of a bumper with the words “Moves 10X Target When Lit” is going to look fantastic in the game room of the buyer.

I’m a life long pinball machine fan myself and I’m the proud owner of a slightly beat up copy of a Gottlieb “Wipeout” machine with a downhill skiing and snowboarding theme.

Nothing beats the mechanical action of a pinball machine.  No video game or iPad app can replace the actual physics of a metal ball spinning around on a waxed surface carreening off bumpers, posts, targets, jets, spinners and of course flippers.

A friend of ours has a great collection of three pinball machines including a mint Twilight Zone, a mint Adams Family and a Getaway pinball machine.  I wish I had the room for more machines (and wish they were more affordable!).

from Wikipedia: Pinball is a type of arcade game, usually coin-operated, in which points are scored by a player manipulating one or more steel balls on a play field inside a glass-covered cabinet called a pinball machine. The primary objective of the game is to score as many points as possible. Points are earned when the ball strikes different targets on the play field. A drain is situated at the bottom of the play field, partially protected by player-controlled plastic bats called flippers. A game ends after all the balls fall into the drain. Secondary objectives are to maximize the time spent playing (by earning “extra balls” and keeping the ball in play as long as possible) and to earn bonus games (known as “replays”).
