Several years ago, the organization purchased and renovated the 1850s former H.W. Carter & Sons overalls factory and turned it into an energy-efficient art center with studios, classrooms, and exhibition space.

Our renovation was completed in Fall 2007. It’s a big building, 41,500 square feet, three stories. After we had gone though all the various initiatives that made us earn LEED Gold certification, this building became one of the most energy-efficient buildings in New Hampshire. And the cost of running the building was so significantly reduced that for the first three years, we did not increase the rent on the artists’ studios at all.

Current plans include an expansion of the center.  The AVA purchased a house in the back of the property, scavenged it for flooring and mill work and then let the fire department use it for exercises before taking it down.  A new building for “messier” arts such as sculpture will be erected in its place.

1000 sq ft HardwoodFlooring, Vinyl Replacement Windows, Kitchen Cabinet Set, Cast Grates and Front Door are available for purchase.

New building at the AVA Gallery for 3D arts

A new building for 3-dimensional studies, to be constructed on the recently acquired property behind the parking lot on the north side of our Carter-Kelsey Building.

Construction of the new building will begin late summer/early fall 2015; completion is scheduled for spring 2016. It will be constructed to meet “LEED” (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) requirements.

In spring 2016, the current Stone Carving Studio will move from AVA’s Carter-Kelsey Building.

Already the site has been cleared and ready for new construction.

A $3.5 million capital campaign is underway to realize these plans. This campaign also includes

Initiatives that will make our facilities net-zero by 2017 (including the installation of solar panels). In addition, it will help eradicate the mortgage on the Carter-Kelsey Building and make possible the establishment of a reserve fund to position AVA for a vibrant future.

Currently AVA is hosting a holiday members show featuring artwork from its diverse creative members.
