Alphonse Gabriel Capone (/ˈæl kəˈpoʊn/;[2] Italian: [kaˈpone]; January 17, 1899 – January 25, 1947), sometimes known by the nickname Scarface, was an American mobster, crime boss, and businessman who attained fame during the Prohibition era as the co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit. His seven-year reign as crime boss ended when he was 33 years old.

Which work should I be most proud of?

I currently have about 5,000 image for sale on my Fine Art America store – https://edward-fielding.pixels.com/

Of course, they are not all masterpieces and some of my older image probably should be tossed, but sometimes you never know what will sell.  Lots of the images were created with other markets in mind besides decor.  Some like my popular stock image “Bagel Breakfast Sandwich” sells all the time for stock and has even sold a few times as fine art.

So the question comes down to this – which images should I take the most pride in?  The ones I personally like the most? The ones buyers seem to like the most? Or the ones my boutique stock agency curates and accepts for their business?  The options are as follows:

My self-selected photographs for my portfolio book:

My collector’s selected portfolio of recently sold images:

My professionally curated portfolio on Arcangel:

https://www.arcangel.com/CS.aspx?VP3=SearchResult&VBID=2U1HZOQPGU5LT&SMLS=1&RW=1280&RH=653

Usually the customer is always right but I think I would put the order of importance as Agency Selected, Artist Selected, Customer Selected.

Boutique Stock Agency Selected as the top in order of importance.  This is the portfolio I’m most proud of because it has been hand selected among other professional photographers by industry professional image buyer with years of experience.

Second I’d put myself because I think I have more experience viewing, reviewing and self-curating fine art photography more than the average buyer.   I’ve spent years not only creating fine art photography but looking at fine art photography by other photographers in books, museums and even took the History of Photographer course at Boston University.

Of course I love any purchase of my work by collectors and buyers, only they don’t always buy what I’d consider my best art.  Often my best gets undiscovered while something more second rate becomes popular.

I guess this order reflects the way I work.  I often think of the boutique stock market and book covers as a goal when I’m photographing, and I always shoot what I’m personally interested in.  If buyers like what I’m offering then that is a bonus.

Vintage Tractor Fine Art Photographs

Vintage Tractor photographs

The Art of the Tractor – celebrating the beauty of old farm tractors with fine art photographs and artwork from around New England and the world.

Do you like old tractors?  This is the place to see some of the finest tractor photography by photographer and vintage tractor hound, Edward M. Fielding.

Living in the heart of old tractor hunting grounds, in the Upper Valley region and Kearsarge area of New Hampshire, near the boarder of Vermont, Fielding spends his time hunting the surrounding towns of Springfield, Sunapee, New London, Hanover, Lyme, Cornish as well as deep into rural Vermont in pursuit of fine old vintage tractors in the wild to photograph.

Photography Prints

John Deere, Farmall, International Harvester, Ford – if it is an old tractor sold back in the day in New England, chances are Fielding has found and documented it.

Photography Prints

Old tractors still in use plowing and haying meadows, old antiques restored and proudly displayed, classics for sale, rusty old heaps put out to pasture as decorations, cute little red house tractors peeking out of barns.

tractor is an engineering vehicle specifically designed to deliver a high tractive effort (or torque) at slow speeds, for the purposes of hauling a trailer or machinery used in agriculture or construction.

Most commonly, the term is used to describe a farm vehicle that provides the power and traction to mechanize agricultural tasks, especially (and originally) tillage, but nowadays a great variety of tasks.

Photography Prints
Agricultural implements may be towed behind or mounted on the tractor, and the tractor may also provide a source of power if the implement is mechanized.

Art Prints

To the tractor lover, there is something magical about the tractor in the pasture. It represents wisdom, strength, and former glory as the plower of soil, tender of crops, and the backbone of the nation.

Art Prints
Much like the aging racehorse or the prize bull, after its working days are done, old tractors find resting spots on the edges of fields, alongside barns, or in the hedgerows.

Today, these rusting piles of iron not only represent the memories of nostalgic farmers (past or present), they represent possibilities of restoration, rejuvenation, and new life as sparkling representations of an age gone by.

New! Two Red Chairs at the Lake

Chair photography by Edward M. Fielding

Chairs are a favorite subject of mine. Usually I look for two chairs together for my series of “Life is Better Together”. Chairs are a stand-in for humans within a landscape. A way for the viewer to picture themselves within a scene. They bring scale and a human element to a otherwise wild landscape. Chairs are welcoming and inviting. They beckon to the viewer to come and sit for a while and enjoy some company in the great outdoors. — Edward M. Fielding.

Red Chairs By The Lake by Edward M. Fielding
Red Chairs By The Lake by Edward M. Fielding

The old story goes something like this…

As told by Mike Savad (my edits):

There was a photographer I knew who was very careful about pre-planning his photography shoots.  For example he would drive out to a remote lake, set up camp there, bring props like big red canoes or an Adirondack chair set up at the end of the pier.

During the bright harsh daylight, he would fish, cook, nap, poke at the fire and hike.  But in the golden hours he would create photographs.

He would wait till sunrise or sunset, get the tripod ready, select the proper lens, take a few test shots, remove any litter in the scene, all the while keeping an eye on the light and sky.  He always knew where the sun was going to set and plan his shots carefully to capture the best light.

But sometimes his activity would attract attention.  One day while shooting an Adirondack chair on the end of a dock with beautiful late day light over the lake,  a lady came over and watched him for about 10 minutes.

Finally she could wait no longer and said “Hey, are you done yet?  I want to take that picture too!”

“Oh sorry” he said ” I didn’t realize you were behind me.  Let me get my stuff out of the way.”   And then started to  gather up his props.  He walked to the end of the dock, and took the chair down.

“What are you doing!!” she screamed. “I wanted to take that picture!”

He replied simply “Well, that was my chair, i brought it all the way up here to get this shot that I’ve been planning for months.  But enjoy the view.”

Then he put the chair in the back of his car and drove off, leaving the woman fuming on the edge of the lake.

Airstream is an American brand of Travel trailers (“caravans” in British English) which are easily recognized by the distinctive shape of their rounded and polished aluminum coachwork. This body shape dates back to the 1930s and is based on designs created by Hawley Bowlus, who had earlier overseen construction of Charles Lindbergh’s aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis.

Airstream trailers and recreational vehicles are manufactured in Jackson Center, Ohio, USA. The company, now a division of Thor Industries, employs more than 800 people, and is the oldest in the industry.

Vintage tractors photographed by fine art photographer Edward M. Fielding. “I don’t think I can drive past an old tractor in the field, up by the barn or resting in the back forty without stopping to take a photograph.” says New Hampshire based photographer Edward M. Fielding. “The amazing machine’s are the lifeblood of the farm. Farmers use them for all sorts of chores around the farm, basically taking the place of oxen of old, and unlike the family car hidden away from the elements in the garage, these machine often spend their life out doors getting dirty and grimy. Getting rained on, snowed on and so on but they continue to faithfully do the work around the farm for decades if not for generations. Lots of personality can be found in these old machines.”

Part of an ongoing series of fine art photographs of farm life around New England and Upstate New York by photographer Edward M. Fielding featuring scenes of country and rural life including landscapes, barns, farms, agricultural scenes, livestock, buildings, farm houses, crops, fields, silos, back roads, country lanes and everyday life in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, New York and beyond. Edward M. Fielding is an award winning artist whose fine art photography can be seen Internationally on the pages of magazines and book covers as well as in galleries and private collections in the New England region.

Out of the Past – Vintage Car Photography by Edward M. Fielding

Out of the Past by Edward M. Fielding
Out of the Past by Edward M. Fielding

One of my personal favorite photographs.  This classic old car was parked in a lot just over the Connecticut River from West Lebanon, New Hampshire in White River Junction Vermont.

It is gone now.  Moved somewhere unknown as the auto repair business that occupied the lot and stored its “future projects” cars has pushed out by a new development and a new bridge.  Suddenly “down by railroad tracks” was suddenly valuable property as the state installed a new bridge and the economy improved.

Glad I could capture this image while it existed.  And I revisited the same spot in different seasons over the year.  This winter scene with the snow and selective color is one of my favorite within the series.

Surreal Photographs to inspire your dreams

Surreal Photographs

Surreal Photographs – Surrealist photographs of Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Andre Breton, Brassai, Salvador Dali, Philippe Halsman, Andre Kertesz and Hans Bellmer are considered giants of art. This old school photographers crafted their dream like imagery on film, canvas and in the darkroom or studio. One of the great modern masters of surreal photography is darkroom magician Jerry Uelsmann.

Jerry Uelsmann
Jerry Uelsmann

Adobe Photoshop has allowed artists with surrealist visions to create amazing far out imagery on the computer by manipulating and compositing various images and elements to create the final piece.

Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for its visual artworks and writings. Artists painted unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic precision.

It’s no coincidence that surrealism started around the time of Freud and his investigations into dreams and how they might give clues to what is going on inside someone’s brain. Are these dreams simply fragments of memory edited together or are they signs of something deeper? Do dreams have meaning or are they meaningless nonsense that we are trying to interrupt as something meaningful?

You can even buy books of dreams. Look up the dream say “flying” and there will be a meaning assigned. Fortune telling or real science?

Here are some sample surreal photographs from fine art photographer Edward M. Fielding that uses elements of mystery and dreams.

Dog Photography: Cute Dog at the Vet

Scared little dog at the vet

Dog Photography with Edward M. Fielding

A few years ago my wife’s boss rescued a scared, timid little hairless mutt from a trailer home where it lived in fear of the other large dogs living in the tiny run down shack of a home.

Photography Prints

I posed the little fella with his new mom as a vet giving him a check up. This was a practical situation as the little guy would not leave her side and always wanted her to hold him or at least touch him. So this pose worked out great as it calmed him as well as provided a bit of storyline for the image.

Photography Prints

Getting a nervous dog that just won’t pay attention or sit still for a moment is one of the biggest challenges of pet photography. Small pets can be placed in containers that provide visual depth to the image as well as contain them, at least for a little while. Just be careful they don’t jump down from high heights and hurt themselves.

Sell Art Online

Treats and clickers can be used to get the dog’s attention. Great expressions can be had with an unexpected noise just before the shutter is clicked. “Parents” of the animals can be a help or a distraction. Limit it to one other person in the room with you as you’ll be fighting for the dog’s attention if the owner is making too much of a fuss. Another person in the room is very handy for making sure the dog is in position but they can also get in the way of the shot or cause undue commotion. But they can help position the pets and provide for their safety.
